Congrats to Texas A&M's Foil squad, UTSA's sabre squad, and UNT's epee squad on their victories. Also congrats to A&M's young foil squads who I understand carried themselves well, and A&M's epee squad for placing 3 rd. Too bad A&M's sabre squad was screwed by the ref, but then, I've yet to meet a sabre fencer who lost for any other reason. Wish I could have been there. Dan

I was busy running the work crew taking down the tournament and only got to see part of the awards. Texas State won it overall. First in Mixed Sabre, second in Mixed Epee, and third in Mixed Foil.
Amy Crawford worked the computer and took off for some business out of town right after she announced the awards and packed away the bout committee table.
She did a GREAT job running the Bobcat (and having her car burglarized) and SWIFA #1 two weekends in a row! She'll be back Monday.

So, any word on the final results? Amy gave me the paper copy this evening. There is some glitch between our Fencing Time and FRED accounts, so it isn't on FRED yet. Sorry!
(SWIFA Points are: #1 = 3 points, #2 = 2 points, #3 = 1 point. Only the top 3 squads can score in each event. Overall scores may tie.)
MIXED SABRE: #1 Texas State (A) - 3 points #2 UTSA - 2 points #3 UT (A) - 1 point
MIXED FOIL: #1 TAMU (A) - 3 points #2 UT (A) - 2 points #3 Texas State (A) - 1 point
MIXED EPEE: #1 UNT (A) - 3 points #2 Texas State (A) - 2 points #3 TAMU (A) - 1 point
OVERALL: #1 Texas State - 6 points #2 TAMU - 4 points #3T - UNT - 3 points #3T - UT - 3 points #4 UTSA - 2 points

So, we're doing an overall score, not scores per event?

I was gonna post scores on the SWIFA website from now on. I wanted to do it the next day but didnt have the results. Mabye next time i'll remember to take a print out of the results so I dont have to ask for the results.
Yea, I think that results should be overall.
Althought we gave awards to the first place teams, as well as the overall winner of the individual tournement, I think the people who "win" SWIFA should have a total victory. I dont think it should be broken down into weapon.

So, we're doing an overall score, not scores per event? Well, SWIFA IS a team effort, Jay. It's all about the teams. I see it this way... The SWIFA Conference is all about team events. "Over All" scores show the strength of the over all team. If you have no Foil or Sabre, field an A, B, and C Epee squad to fill out your team. There will be a winning team based on the depth of your team's field for each meet; in whatever weapons you can field a squad (or squads). There will also be an over all total winner for the season. We just have 3 more SWIFA meets to go to find out who that is!

Actually, I thought they did a great job hosting SWIFA #1, but it just seemed like the thing to say when they won it, too.

I agree. It makes them look good. I'm glad that there was newspaper coverage. Did the school paper do any coverage?

The rolling points standings are on the SWIFA website at home.austin.rr.com/swifa/I'll have to ask Amy for more details. She did the tournament on her computer.

The rolling points only show the teams who placed 1, 2, 3 in the tournament and their totals. It would be nice to see the total results in each of the weapons at SWIFA # 1.

We discussed this at the SWIFA EC meeting Thursday and it was agreed that we are going to have the website updated to include this information. This should happen fairly soon.
