First day of the Houston RYC (#1 for SWS) was a great success (might be a bit biased but that's what I think). The facility was full of fencers and scrambling parents. The Y14 Epee and Y12 Foil events were fenced by separate genders as there were over 10 girls for each category. Not everybody was happy with that, but that was described in the information section of the tournament. Partial results for today are already posted at askFRED, but without ratings for Y14 Men's Epee (not Mixed Epee), a C1 tournament. askfred.net/Results/results.php?tournament_id=1244Refereeing and the pace of the competition were very good overall. Many of the frequent posters were there including Schlager, MTD, Katman, David Sierra, Augie Skopik, and me. I might be missing some. My son fenced poorly in pools but excellent in DE's. He had 4 DE victories (over U, B05, and 2 C05), and then lost to Micek (B05) in the gold medal bout.
