This is copied from my poll on fencing.net:
I was wondering what level of tournament participation the fencers of this forum are at in a year. For me, last year I was fencing as many events as I could, but at only 1 day each, it only added up to 8. On the other hand, now that I'm refereeing I expect that number to increase a lot, as I'll be occupied both days of a tournament, as opposed to just the day I fence.
Then there are people who have very few tournaments near them, or can't afford them. On the other hand, people who are attending all the NACs, Summer Nationals, local events etc from start to finish probably have quite imposing numbers.
For the purposes of this poll, you can count a day as participated in if: 1) It was at an officially sanctioned (by somebody) tournament 2) You were competing, refereeing or serving as a member of the bout committee/technical staff. Armorers, equipment vendors etc count. However, your involvement must be formal, not manning the concession stand as a volunteer or carrying water bottles while your SO waited for their event. 3) We're counting days, not tournaments or weekends. Travel doesn't count, you have to have been at the venue.

How amusing to count exactly 31 days for 2005.

Between fencing and coaching and working as bout committee or armorer at tournaments... 30.
If you count events fenced seperately rather than merely the days, more like 40+.

;D Longblade, I am pea green with envy! Three years ago I fenced SO many I can't even remember them all... In fact, at Summer Nationals in Austin I fenced 5 events alone! This year, so far- ONE. Too bad it is all so far away and gas is so expensive!

I'm not a competitor anymore, but try to help out with tournaments when asked...

Depends on the year.. I know I fenced at a lot more at local tournaments when I was in high school because I lived in Houston. However, now I do a lot more traveling in order to get to collegiate fencing tournaments (SWIFA, etc.).. so I'm fencing less, but I'm also fencing different people that are my own age as well.
