I am in the process of moving myself out of the moderator duties on some of the boards on these discussion forums. For quite some time Katman has served as moderator for the SWIFA board and MTD on the Armory board. Most recently, LongBlade has agreed to serve as moderator on the Fencing in the News Boards: campechesteel.proboards15.com/index.cgi?board=News&action=markasreadBelieve me, he amasses a great collection of new items about fencing from around the world. His board is likely one to check daily. I have also recently created a board just for posts relative to the Houston Cup. A moderator has agreed to serve and, as soon as he gets his user ID registered, he will be locked in. I also have a person who has agreed to moderate the Coaches board and will set them in place as soon as they register. I am in the process of trying to select moderators for the Clubs board, the Tournament board and the Fencers board.

Are you still adding moderators?
Are you taking volunteers?

No offense intended, but so far (with one special exception) I am largely taking volunteers from among those people whom I know, to give me a better feel for how quick or slow to react to provocation they are.
I am still stuck as moderator on a lot of boards here so your turn may well come. Which board did you have in mind?

No reply from fox but LongBlade has offered to moderate the tournaments board. Of the boards making up the main category, that only leaves me with finding moderators for the referee board and the miscellaneous, "crossed swords" board.
Unfortunately, for the referee board, I would prefer if someone well-versed in such issues (like Gary van der Wege or Jerry Benson or some other FOC observer/instructor) took it up, so that the moderator could also correct errors of fact made by a poster.
Sadly, the (occasionally) very political nature of this site can make it less than appealing to exactly the sort of person I would like top attract. I would really like the "referee" board to be a place where folks would be comfortable asking what the appropriate call for such-&-such a situation might be.
"Crossed Swords" is so miscellaneous I am saving offering the moderator post for it until I can think of someone who strikes me as appropriate to the task.. or until such a person asks and the novelty of it makes me accept.
For those so inclined, I am also seeking moderators for some pretty low-stress boards such as "Classical Fencing," "Historical Fencing," "SCA," "Frank Encounters," "NCAA," "RYC." "UIL," "Movies & TV," "Literature," "Lessons and Instructions," "Lost & Found" and "Buy & Sell."

That would be fightgal.
She is the moderator of the theatrical fencing/stage combat board. She and I have only conversed by email, but she also the moderator/operator of the Yahoo Group on stage combat in Houston.
If anyone wants to know more, they can send her a personal message and ask.
While we are on the topic, DavidSierra has assumed the moderator post on the referee board. David was a triple-nickel the last time I checked (rated a 5 in each weapon), so it would also be a good idea to post questions about refereeing, calls, penalties etc to his board. He can probably help.

NEW BOARD
If you scroll near the bottom, you will find a new board, The Sanctuary that is designed to serve as a place where forum members, especially (but not only) new ones, may introduce themselves.
Hopefully, our nicer members will also welcome them.
Perhaps some of our newer members (highschool, fox, foiledagain, avidwatcher, Aldo, runorcrun... ) will introduce themselves.
Oh, and those of us who have been bumping around this board for a bit can also make our introductions.
Since it exists for no other purpose than to let members introduce themselves to other members and be welcomed by them, only members can post. "Guests" may read, but I removed their ability to post.
FOR THE MODERATORS: I am leaving this option with you. If you wants guests to be able to post to your board I will leave it alone. If you moderate a board for me and wish guests only to be able to read, but not post, I will make the necessary changes.
This will be the decision of each moderator.

I do not know if this is new, but I only just noticed that a lot of the tournament blurbs in the news fader at the top are actually direct links to the Ask FRED page for the respective tournament.

That is actually new. I did it late last night. I also added a function for each member. If you click on "profile"at the top, you pull up an mini-file on yourself. You can then go to "Modify Profile" and add/change/delete stuff like the signature line, etc.
A lot of you already know this. What is new is I added a place for you to designate your affiliation. I tried to list all the clubs in our division (and 3 clubs outside it because they have VERY active contributors here).
I also added affiliations for the SCA and ARMA as well as for the Society of American Fight Directors.
For sport fencers left out of the loop, I added general affiliations for the divisions in Texas and the Southwest Section.
As always, you may choose to either proudly announce you affiliation or leave it blank for anonymity's sake.

The news fader links seem handy. As for displaying my "affiliation," got anything in an "unattached"?
I take a 48 long.

Just as an FYI.
I took "The Sanctuary" board, which was always set so only members could post, and made so that only members can access it at all. It is a place for members to introduce themselves to each other, so I'm setting it up as a member's only "clubhouse" if you will.
I took the boards for "FIE & USFA," the "Southwest Section" and the "Gulf Coast Division," and left them viewable to all, but only members can post. Not to worry, this board (Crossed Swords), which is a catch all, remains open and accessible to all.
Actually, there have been very few non-member posts of late, so I don't think my alterations have been any great burden.
As to anonymity, there are now several members of this board whose identity even I do not know, so I doubt membership is exactly a dead giveaway.

Uhrm... There seems to be a green "thermometer" under my data (and everyone else's, for that matter)... This is new? ...and I'm the member of the month? ? I just want to thank the academy... ;D

Yeah, congrats, and you get exactly what for this distinction? Meanwhile, yeah, I saw the green graph, too. Wierd. If I post 11 more times (10 after this) I get, what? Also, just FWIW, there is now a link to games above the "Off Kilter" section. Yeesh. How cheesy. (Okay, okay,so I wasted 15 minutes of my life playing Castelvania... ) oh, nice new smilies

The smilies and the status graph were just quickies thrown in over coffee. I had to leave and neglected to post a notice. Sorry about that. Oh, and for the moderators, the next time you consider deleting someone's post in part or entirely, you can always replace their text with this smiley:
