I reallllly didnt want to stay this far away but... Im staying 1 mile away at the Lexington Hotel O and Suites 1300 Canal St New Orleans, La 70112 Does anyone know,,, Is this a good area? Is this a good hotel? am i gonna get shot and or robbed in New Orleans? Is it considered close to the party area or is it concidered far away?? Can i get to the bars in Heals or am i gonna have to take a cab or, stuff flip flops in a big purse??? lol... Should i bring my strapy black heals to go with everything or should i also bring my sliver and gold heals too?Do most chicks were heals on bourbon street or just cute flats?? Are alcoholic beverages allowed in the actual fencing venue?? (while im watching friends fence)

To answer your questions: This is an okay area- most areas are in N.O. if you are aware of your surroundings at all times and always are with another person. Don't know about the hotel, but it should be okay. This is the edge of the Quarter-it will be catering to tourists. Close enough to the party area! Just stay on Canal until you get to Bourbon or Royal, then head into the Quarter. When in doubt, take a cab-but you're on the streetcar line and it will be crowded with tourists. Wear your ballet flats- heels are murder on the cobblestone streets. BTDT back in the day. Always pack light. One pair of fancy shoes to go with all your outfits! From Momma B's Rules of Packing. Yes, you will be able to have a drink while watching your friends fence. There used to be a bar upstairs-we'd play racquetball, then go have a beer. As long as its in an unbreakable cup, you can tote your drink anywhere. Such a civilized place... And I know what it means to miss New Orleeeeeenz..........

Way to go, Adam...
(Of course the pity is that we can't get a sabre competition in Texas with high enough rankings that he might get an A in Sabre.)

Which just goes to show you.... Epee is subject to massive ratings inflation, and the whole ratings thing in general is broken. I'm not trying to say that Adam doesn't deserve congratulations, but to say that he is a 'better' epee fencer than a sabre fencer? Come on, please...

It might be the case, David. But I have shown several times that the results of Texas fencers at NACs are proportionate to the average rating for the weapon. That is to say, if we have 30 competitors in Div. I, the average and best result would be in Epee> Foil> Saber. Rating inflation in Epee might be occurring in other areas of the country, but not in Texas. I have seen Adam fence Epee several times against quality opponents (better than me); he holds himself very well and has defeated several quality A's. He is not an example of rating inflation in Epee (I can think of few rare examples of inflation) but more of the lack of HIGH RATINGS in Saber within the SWS. That is lack of opportunity to gain a high rating in the SWS. He might be a better saber than epee fencer, but precisely because he is in essence a saber fencer fencing epee that make him more dangerous and unpredictable.

I dont agree.
Your forgetting that the error in a statistical analysis using NAC's, is that you are only looking at the people that are DOING the NAC's in epee. (Ive been over loaded with statistics for my masters degree) There are a bunch of epee "A"s in Texas that don't do NAC's that would probably foil your theory if they entered NAC's. ie they know they'll probably get crushed.
hehe "i said FOIL your theory...hehe hehe he
The unpredictablility issue is very valid though.
However, i dont know of anyone in Sabre that from unpredictablity, got a "B" or and "A" Must be an epee thing.

True, it is a sample of Epee competitors. However, that also applies to Foil and Saber. The group comparison is between weapons. The factors that discourage fencers to attend NACs are likely to be similar in all three weapons.
FYI: I hated graduate statistics. Had to do 2 courses in graduate school.
