I saw this yesterday on Fencing Net and wondered is anyone was planning to try this system out. There are enough local tournaments that it might be pretty easy to see in a short amount of time how accurate the system is.

I think the real question is how long it would take to get useful results, and how to initially seed everyone.

You'd initially seed people with their letter rating and then the new rating would be saved to a database at the end of each tournament. You'd use askfred.net or possibly the USFA's site to do this. I think askfred.net is better positioned for that currently.

Because I have so much to do this holiday season, and Felo is a lovely distraction, I downloaded it and played a little.
My question is, where do you start with the initial seeding of the A's?
Not all A's are created or maintained equally (nor any other letter classification). The "fences like a young god" status should be bestowed on...which of the A's? The Hurleys, the Hurme brothers, Trapani, Reed-all of them would qualify IMHO-but what about the other A's that are A's (and all that it implies) but do not win on a regular basis? Likewise any other letter classification.
Once you determine where the elite A's should sit, it should be easier to seed on down the classifications to the U's and beginners.
Any thoughts?
This program might be fun to implement as entertainment.

Use any national points the fencer may have to play with the initial points earned and work down from there. In the absence of national points, treat all the As as equal and seed randomly like is currently done.
