With apologies for bad poetry and punctuation, I wish you all the happiest of holidays!
‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the salle,
Not a creature was stirring, not even an owl.
The masks they were set on the shelf just right
The blades and the jackets hung up for the night.
The lames and the body cords stored away with care,
The smell of fresh sweat still hung in the air.
The coffee pot was empty
The schedule was down,
The lights were off and the coach wasn’t around.
When up on the rooftop there arose such a clatter,
There was no one to hear so it just didn’t matter.
Down through the ceiling with magic so quick,
Came the sprightly old elf by the name of St. Nick.
He looked ‘round the room and exclaimed with great shock:
“This place is for fencing-the sport I love quite a lot!
Why this jacket looks largest and well, if I may,
Try my hand at the blade that they call the epee!”
He called down an elf from his sleigh mighty quick.
They dressed in the whites and flicked on the switch.
They fenced until 10 ‘cause St. Nick is a vet,
But he wasn’t even winded, not even tired yet.
He threw down the epee and picked up a foil,
The elf did the same and they started to toil.
Another 10 points and Nick was up two-oh.
But wanted to play saber and the elf was too slow.
So he called old Rudolph to take up the blade,
And that night in the salle, a little history was made.
They advanced and they lunged and they flunged left and right,
The two of them fencing-it was quite a sight.
St. Nick won the bout easily by five,
Rudolph was happy to leave the strip alive.
St. Nick ended the night with three out of three,
He climbed in the sleigh and said with great glee-
“If all boys and girls could fence all their life
This world would be filled with much less stress and strife.”
He slapped the reigns and as they rose out of sight
He called
“Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night”.
