I went to the Loch Soillier populace meeting and made the offer of sharing our facility on Tuesday nights. I gave them the pertinent details ($3.00 floor fee, times, location, etc.) and my contact information. They were quite gracious and seemed to be enthusiastic about the idea. In fact, one or two made a point to come over and thank me for extending the offer. I stayed long enough to learn that they have youth combat training (maybe something that could be folded into our beginning foil classes) and competitive tournaments for the various weapons that they fence.
Hey Don! They have an active brewer's guild! Mead anyone?
I got absolutey no feeling of hostility, anxiety, or superiority from the group. This makes me wonder where all this started, like maybe we should think about how we have reacted to them in the past. They said that they would post the offer on their web site. I assume that they will link to our site. Their business meetings are brisk and to the point (something we might learn from) but they seem to be a jolly group.
I believe that they will take us up on the offer. If that turns out to be the case, how welcome they feel will depend on us. The ball will be in our court then.

Hey, you know my opinion on these matters. The more the merrier. The link could work to the advantage of both groups.

Well, fudge. I didn't seen any SCA folks Tuesday night at the club.
I'm patient, though.
vraptor, were they doing any fencing at the populace meeting?

Why don't y'all just agree to show up as a group at one of their practices some evening and cancel your practice that night?
That'd really show them you were serious.

To Schlager: No, they were just conducting business, and rather briskly. Not a weapon in sight.
To Longblade: I certainly don't mind going over to play in their sandbox for a night, but ...ummm... this is August in Houston and their practice sessions are outside... and the inside of the EWYC is air conditioned... WHAT DO YOU THINK??
Seriously, third-world fencing is not much fun. I think I'll wait until the weather cools down a bit before I attend one of their sessions.

Out of curiosity, what is it you're hoping to accomplish?

I think I covered that in the articles section of the Rogue web site.
But other than that, the objective is to have fun and maybe learn something.

I think yours is an excellent idea and will likely pay dividends in the long term.
You might also consider LongBlade's idea. It might be fun.
