In Texas, I've only been the the Texas Renaissance Festival in the fall and Scarborough Faire in the spring. This looks like a newer, smaller faire, but it might be fun. Does anyone know anything about it (other than the stuff on the web site.) One good side is it's this month, so no waiting. One bad thing is it's this month so it's going to be [glow=red,2,300]HOT[/glow] ravens-loft-faire.tripod.com/Now to break out a mapping site and find Emory, Texas.

Don't know that one. Perhaps some of the North Texas contingent may be familiar with it.
I want to think Emory is in the NE section of the state.

I took a look at their website looking for some fencing or fencing/comedy acts like "Bold & Stupid Men" or "The Duellists" or the armory show over at TRF (where the SCA used to set up shop), but didn't see anything I recognized.
The was a link off a group called Col. Walter Butler's Dragoons that led to a Yahoo group. The intro read:
"This club is for the exchange of information regarding Colonel Walter Buttler's Dragoons, a living history group that reenacts the 30 years war (1618 to 1648).The group attempts to portray Buttler's Dragoons in the campaigns of 1634. A few months after the murder of our former Feldmarschal, Albrect Wallenstein (in which we played a major part) and the great Imperialist victory at Nordlingen.
Buttler's Dragoons are interested in the total story of the armies of the period. We include the "ladies" of the baggage train, non-combatant members, etc. The group is also learning Rotwelch, the soldiers's slang of the period. We perform our duels and exhibition fights with live steel (correct period weapons with blunted edge and tip)."
For now, this is just a "possible" for me.
Although I am intrigued by a slang called "Rotwelch."

Since you seem to be very familiar with our groups at TRF, I'll just give you an update; Bold & Stupid Men won't be back this year due to huge budget cuts. The Duellists, which performed on the Castle stage (with the stained glass zodiac wheel above it) was my group, actually our real name was the W.D.F., or World Duelling Federation; we retired in 2000. There is another group whose official name is The Duelists (spelled correctly) out of California and are still touring, but have never made it to this faire. As for the Art of Defense show in the Armory, that's my baby, I created it in 2000, write and direct it every year since. Last year we had a cast of four, including myself that performed all the shows, this year we're back to using a different set of actors in every show. So, I hope you'll all stop by and see the fun! As for this little faire (subject of this thread), I can't imagine doing a show in August, how brutal!! But hooray for them if they're having fun. ~Ann I took a look at their website looking for some fencing or fencing/comedy acts like "Bold & Stupid Men" or "The Duellists" or the armory show over at TRF (where the SCA used to set up shop), but didn't see anything I recognized. Let me add that I really enjoyed the Arte of Defence show at the Armory, both for its humor and its fairly accurate (by my poor ability to judge) use of period movements appropriate to each weapon used. I really MUST purchase a copy of Grab Them by the Crotch and Throw Them Out the Window, at the Gutenberg Press this year!
