The Four Winds Faire, a Renaissance Faire in the area of Whitehouse and Troup, TX (near Tyler) opened this last weekend. While very small compared to the Texas Renaissance Festival and Scarborough Faire it is well worth a visit, especially by those who live closer than Nicole and I (hint to you DFW types). It will not take long to cover the current number of vendors (small but growing), so my advice it go to their website: Four Winds Faire and plan you visit timed to the "duels" and. especially, the jousts. (See my post on the Joust board). I have a short clip of a male vs. female duel (Senior Mixed Rapier Competition? ) which was fun. It is currently at the bottom of the Rogue Gulf Coast Fencing site.

Greetings all!
Wanted to send a message off to those thinking about visiting this faire.
As previously stated it is well worth the trip, even though the size is small compared to other Texas festivals.
Their fight choreograper is a relative unknown name Lynn Young, and he works in conjuction with Leah Thompson. Many of his fighters have some great stuff, and their variety has grown alot since last season.
Their joust, while unscripted and not stage, it very fun to watch and the games are highly competitive since they all joust for a prize and bragging rights.
If you have the chance, you REALLY ought to check this place out.

Thanks, chartaine. Nice to hear from someone who (seems to be) attached to the event. I think we used to get reports from one of the knights in the joust, as well, in years past.
schlager7, the male-female piece on the rogue site is fun. I look forward to more.

Here are vids of a couple of the "duels" designed to settle scores... (If you see gibberish instead of a screen, use the two urls below)

Okay, that does it!
I looked at their site and the Faire just is not that far away for me. I'm going tomorrow. I'll let you know my take!

Thanks for the videos. Our choreographers and fighters appreciate the notoriety.
The fighters in the above videos are as follows:
Vid 1 (male vs female) --
Jack Taylor as D'Artagnan versus Jenny Chapman as Kitty
Vid 2 (female vs female) --
Jenny Chapman as Kitty (in green) versus Michelle Ruesewald as Constance (in blue).
Thanks again from Four Winds Faire, and please make the trip out to see both our fighters, vendors, performers, and joust. You will not regret the short drive to Whitehouse or the faire.
Bladespark - come by the blacksmith's forge and ask for me ... would be glad to speak with you.
Matt

Thanks for the details chartaine. I, myself plan a trip on April Fools Weekend (next week). I enjoy the joust, the human chess match and, of course, the music.
(A lot of my person CD collection comes from performers at the various Faires.)

To the faire folk... great job!
