Since the trend really seems to include the birth of more and more fencing clubs... and since it has been noted that colleges are often good places to start... Has anyone tried to get a club going at Lamar U.
Give Spindletop some friends

That would be a nice thing. I do not believe anyone has though of this.
I attend Lamar U but am hardly capable of starting a club there. It would be nice but I have neither the time, nor the knowledge.
Perhaps one day....

You never know...
There could be someone on the faculty there, now, who once fenced and could start up a club. (That is what I hear happened at Cy-Falls High School).
If you hear such talk, you could always seek them out and encourage them...

In the 1980's some students, specifically Glen Weathington and Dale Fontenot were part of a club fencing team at Lamar. The university was first very supportive, but then they pulled their support. The rumor was that the university needed a certain number of sports to continue as a Division 1. But the basketball team and football team were training the sports program. They figured that if they used the ROTC as a marksman team, they would get off cheaper since the ROTC guys had their own bullets.
The Spindletop Cavaliers, which is the fencing club in the Golden Triangle inherited the remaining equipment from the club. Today, we still have the one set of prieur reels and two prieur scoring machines.
Presently the Spindletop Cavaliers have members from Beaumont, Port Arthur and Vidor/Bridge City. We would be happy to host any students from Lamar at our facility. Call me at 985-8010 or my cell at 749-0171 if you would like more informaton.
