Who are Sadie Hawkins & George Spelvin? <sigh>For the first one, you're probably too young to remember it.</sigh> As to the second name, perhaps fightgal or Katman could answer it for you...

Who are Sadie Hawkins & George Spelvin? Sadie Hawkins is a fictional character. I believe she may have come out of the old Lil Abner comic strip. Anyway, many moons ago, when a woman asking a man to dance just wasn't done, "Sadie Hawkins" events allowed a culturally acceptable way to turn the tables. Many a high school and university in the 1940s and 1950s had "Sadie Hawkins" Day dances, where they men had to stand around like wallflowers until a woman asked them to dance. I can't help on George Spelvin. Never heard of him.

In most (not all) cases, if you put your cursor over an event as it appears on the news fader, part of it will highlight. These are click-able links. For most fencing tournaments they take you to a page on FRED. For a lot of holidays, it will either take you to a web site about that holiday or to an entry on the forum calendar. For instance, one event running today and tommorow reads: Kristallnacht Night of November 9-10 If you put your cursor over the second line and click, it will take you here: campechesteel.proboards15.com/index.cgi?action=calendarview&thread=1143395786A lot of the holiday links work like that...
