I think there is also an Iaido group in Sugar Land. Hi fox, Did you find out anymore about this group in Sugar Land? Is it one of Craig Hocker's schools? I don't know if this is the group Fox meant, but I found info on a Sugar Land group. Part of their material reads: "Our lineage is Muso Shinden Ryu. We host two seminars per year taught by Roger Wehrhahn Shihan, Chief Instructor for North American San Shin Kai, and direct student of Mitsuzuka Takeshi Sensei, Hachidan who was a direct student of Nakayama Hakudo Sensei (1869-1958)." I also did see the name Craig Hocker and a telephone number. The web site is here: www.houstonkiaikido.org/ssk.htmFrom the url I presume they are connected to an aikido group.

There is no one practicing iaido in Sugar Land that I am aware of. I used to do a Saturday morning class at the aikido school where I teach just before the aikido class for a few of my aikido students that expressed an interest. Mostly that was my own private practice time. Though I had a couple of dedicated long time martial artists getting what amounted to private lessons there for a while. After one moved to Florida (Navy/Iraq) and the other to Croatia, teaching regularly twice a week in the Montrose area of central Houston made another class at the moment seem unnecessary waste of energy. The thing about iaido is since there just isn't that many of us around in Texas, really worthwhile dedicated students hunt you down. We currently have a great group of people with quite varied martial backgrounds training in the central location. The Aikido and Iaido groups actually have no connection, totally different organizations. I am the only common factor. I finally got around to getting another domain name. The groups official website is ... texasiaido.com/Our Fall 2006 Muso Shinden Ryu Iaido seminar with Roger Wehrhahn Shihan, Head of North American San Shin Kai, and long time student of Mitsuzuka Sensei is scheduled for Saturday, October 7th in Houston. I expect we will be doing a series of classes in iaido, kendo no kata, and tameshigiri (cutting). It should be a lot of fun. I will have details up on our website soon. best regards, Craig
