While most of us will be preparing for our annual Thanksgiving traditions, Juleah Nusz, 15, and her father, Bary Nusz, will be on their way for Juleah to compete in Germany.
Juleah Nusz qualified for and will fence in Heidenheim, Germany.
She will represent the United States, Texas, Amarillo and Amarillo College for a second time in international competition.
She is part of the Amarillo College Fencing Association. For the past three years, she has competed at a high level.
For this family, fencing began 4½ years ago.
"My wife gave Juleah and her brother a choice between basketball camp or fencing, and they choice fencing," Bary Nusz said.
"It's still amazing, because we never thought that we would go this far with fencing."
For Juleah, fencing is "pretty cool," and she said she believes it can help anyone learn how to defend himself or herself.
"It's not just whacking blades," she said. "It's more like physical chess, because it requires a lot of thinking."
AC teaches intermediate fencing classes for all ages.
"We are very, very proud of Juleah and that she is ranked so high in the nation," said Herman Nusz, Juleah's grandfather.
Juleah also will compete at the Women's Epee in Bonn, Germany, on Jan. 27
Juleah Nusz, left, shows proper the British toe shot technique. She is ranked No. 1 in the nation.
