I'd like to take a minute to offer a brief tournament refresher for fencers and parents in order to make things run a bit smoother at our local tournaments.
1. Take a moment to download the waiver and have it filled out before you leave for the tournament. The registration person will love you for your efficiency. We must have a waiver for each local tournament. Fencing outside the division? They have a waiver, too, and you can download it as well.
2. If you are not at the venue 15 minutes before the close of registration please call the club owner, a friend, or coach and tell them to let the BC know you are coming. If no phone no. was listed on FRED, get one before you leave the house. Don't hold up the entire tournament while we re-seed b/c you were late.
And-note to parents-this is a courtesy that divisions extend to fencers. If you are way late at a national tournament, too bad, you won't fence. Please don't be up in the BCs face b/c YOU are late.
4. Fencers- check your DE slips. I repeat, check your DE slips. If you won the bout, you bring the slip to the table and make sure the score is correct before handing the slip over.
Club owners- if you don't already, please institute a policy of having meetings or small seminars where you explain to parents and new fencers exactly what to do at tournaments and what they can do to make their experience more enjoyable.
Thanks so much, your BC loves you!
