Just FWIW -
From a referee at Nationals (courtesy of FencingNet):
From what I understand the copper strips are no more at national events. Don't have full details but from what I understand they are either sold to clubs or scrap. I guess after years of use they have just gotten to hard to maintain and now gone. Not sure what this means for future events but hopefully we will see 70 strips at nationals next year with 20 ungrounded for sabre fencing.

The copper strips actually belonged to a USFA division, and they now are purchasing the raised strips. There were 20 strips at Nationals, and these were sold to clubs or divisions for $150 plus shipping (about $83). I found out about this Saturday July 10th, about 2 CST, and spoke with Matt about buying some for the division. It was decided not to purchase these by the division, but I have purchased one for Katy Blades. It is the rolled copper strip.
The USFA should have given some lead time, but I think you just have to get to know the right people on the National level to find out about these things. I will be more vigilant in the future.

Ah, a case of those in the know are the first to know?

Are the new strips going to be the ones used at the Div 2, 3 NAC?

Perhaps, if the FIE gets its way, grounded strips will disappear.
Of course we'll have bib as target in foil and epee fencers will wear lame' body condoms.
(Pardon my theft of your term, Geezer).

So, during large tourneys, it'll look like a Naked Gun convention. GREAT!
