* Tommaso LARI was disqualified from the competition after the Gold Medal match due to a decision by competition management. He received a black-card for unsportive behaviour after loosing the match.

On the heels of US victories in cadet men's and women's foil, the victory of the Junior men's team in foil is tremendous. I can recall years back when US foilists, as a group, were not seen as a serious threat for top medals. That all three foil victories were over Italy, a traditional (and current!) powerhouse, makes these victories all the sweeter.
