The wording of this will have to be fixed, but I'd like to propose the following as an amendment to the Gulf Coast Division Bylaws, to be voted on at the Electoral Meeting in the Spring: [glow=red,2,300]That for the three major tournaments held in the Gulf Coast Division: J.O. Qualifiers, Division Qualifiers, and Southwest Section Circuit Cup, no club will be allowed to hold more than one per year. The three tournaments will be awarded on a rotational basis. All of the clubs in the Division will be on the rotational list. If a club does not feel that it is capable of holding the tournament when its turn comes, it can decline and the next club on the list will be given the option. The club which declines cannot name a club to take its turn. When a club receives the option of holding a tournament, it may ask for assistance from other clubs.[/glow]

I strongly agree with the proposal. We obviously need a change, since the status quo has forced us to fence the Divisional Championships at a venue with strips that are clearly illegal!

Second THAT!
Can I PLEEEEZE fence on a strip that is more than ONE meter wide?
Oh, and how about teaching someone how to do a mask test?

I could accept the strips at Saule Mauro for a minor tournament - I have several times. But a Division Tournament, such as the Division Qualifiers, deserves to have strips that meet the specifications. If these were impossible to come by, that would be one thing, but they are not. There are several locations that can be used to provide legal strips. Why should Saule Mauro be used when the others are available??? How could the leaders of our Division continue to choose this location year after year when all that I say is true? Because they have something to gain, at the expense of the general membership. Although they contribute greatly to their clubs' fencing, they are serving their clubs when they make these choices, not the Gulf Coast Division. But when each of them accepted the nomination for their positions, they agreed to serve the GCD!!!

Hot Dog and Hoorah!!!! It's like the '60's again...riot and revolution!!! The Squeaky Wheel Principle..."We're not going to take this #*#* anymore!" I love it! Could it be settled with a duel? One club, one Champion, the Loser buys...? I'll bet on Cravey.
Bad Karma comes home to roost. Mauro's Ministrips, Directing by Devine Inspiration since you don't actually have to watch the action, guiding fencing course graduates at Rice to his club with an elitest sneer at the Rice Rencing Club...the Old Boy is not winning many new friends. I wouldn't throw the guy overboard, but we've got to move on. The GCD has potential to be a very Big Time group. Impeccability means...just what it says.

I'm not one to just dump on someone, but has anyone noted that the Salle Mauro epee coach, Andrey Geva, has given notice. I figure he had enough of trying to squeeze in beside Hamza's ego. I also noticed Salle Mauro is wasting no time in promoting their new epee coach. Of cousre, they also spell the name of their own club, "Sallie Mauro." Then, too, that is also how half their fencers pronounce it. Sheesh!

How many of Salle Mauro's fencers did you survey to determine how they pronounce Salle ?

[glow=red,2,300]Touche![/glow]
I (sheepishly) also note that [glow=red,2,300]I[/glow] mis-spelled "course" when I wrote of the SM cadre's inability to spell.
Sorry. I just get snippy when I repeatedly hear (what should be) a common fencing term mis-pronounced. I think I was just in a testy mood yesterday.
