The Woodlands Fencing Academy will be opening June 1st at its new location. Look for our billboards and newspaper ads announcing the new location. The new space will be a perfect fencing environment--Action Flex gymnasium floor (easy on the knees), 25 foot ceilings, 10 regulation size strips, great lighting, 20 foot diameter fan coupled with new HVAC, target practice areas, dressing rooms, kitchen, fully outfitted armory, sound system for music and announcements, and parking.
Khariton Zazhitskiy and Bill Trapani will be our primary coaches, with Ben Freiman acting as assistant coach for beginners during the summer. In addition, we have a trainer on staff who will assist getting our members in top shape, whether they compete or not. We are also lucky to have Kathy Bone as our manager--well known in the Gulf Coast Division for her organizational skills. This is a top team and we are certain to have a professionally run fencing club. Although we are an epee club at this time, we expect to add foil in the near future. We will have numerous classes available for all ages throughout the day--musketeers, home school, youth, juniors and adult classes. Our new website will be up shortly and you will find information regarding our schedule and hours.
Given the short time frame between Summer Nationals/NAC and opening, we are not planning on having a grand opening party until the fall. However, to introduce the new space to the Houston fencing community, we would like to invite you to fence with us during the month of June at no cost. Attend as many classes and fence as many times as you like in the month of June--for free.
We look forward to seeing you in June! Thanks for all the support we have received. Leslie

The old website for WFA seems to be down. Is there a more current site?

We are in the process of getting our new site up and running. We are meeting Saturday to get it finalized. It ties in to our advertising.
Once it is up the new schedule will be on it.
Sorry-would have answered sooner but we are very busy getting the club ready to open on June 1!!!
It's shiny!

We have been working around the clock to get the club ready for our opening on June 1st. It looks great--just a few final touches to be completed tomorrow before we open on Monday. You can see a few pictures of the fencing area on our website (www.woodlandsfencingacademy.com). These pictures do not do the space justice and we invite you to come see the space in person. Our website has been redesigned and has a new look intended to mirror the sleek look of the new salle. We have a billboard going up on I-45 on June 6th--so be on the look out for it. Tom Bone, with help from John, has done a superb job designing the scoring system for the club (unique in the US) and they have worked very hard over the course of many weeks to install the system. Kudos of course to Kathy Bone who is the most organized person I know. Please stop by and say hello if you are in the neighborhood. Leslie

I echo the congratulations. From the chatter on the BCFA thread, it looks like Houston was going to need a new primary tournament venue.

Leslie & family have done a great job, no?
Well, there's not much to do while waiting in traffic on I-45, so might as well get the word out that way. We'll see how it does!
C'mon out and visit. The hours are on the website- but mostly its Monday through Sat. from about 4:30 to 8 or 9. Juniors/Adults fence M,W,F and Youth are on Tu/Th (w/ Junior/Adult bouting after).
This Saturday everyone will be down at BCFA it looks like.
If you want to drop by during the day, call and see if anyone will be there (832-482-3138). My hours for June are Tu/We/Thurs from about noon-6 p.m.
Come and visit while it has that "new gym smell".
Cheers,

Looks great, but a nit to pick -- all national flags displayed should be of the same size and same height. It's disrespectful to differ them.

That is true for outdoor display, indoors the US flag can and should be displayed higher than other flags. And even if several websites on flag etiquette are wrong, I don't think there will be any major international incidents stemming from this.
And we're in America dadgummit.

Dan is correct--in times of peace they should be at the same height. Thought we could get away with it given that no other flags are displayed on the same wall. No disrespect intended. As soon as I get a 15 foot ladder we will adjust so they are at the same height! Thanks Leslie
