Just a couple of radical ideas for fun tournaments:
1)Alternative Weapons Tournamet- a fun tournament where fencers compete in the weapon they have the least experience with. Equiptment could be shared by all. For example if you are a foilist, you may compete in saber, a saberist might compete in epee. 2)One Light Touch Tournament-Only one light touches count! 3)Dynamic Duo-similar to team tournaments. Two fencers compete as a team switching every 3 touches. 4)Triathafence-Fencers compete in pool bouts in all three weapons. Overall winner is determined by indicator and wins and losses (incidentally the Russians did this regularly as part of their training).

All sound like fun and some variations have been tried.
The Spindletop Cavaliers recently held their Columbiad 1-touch epee tournament. (In pools a double-hit was a double defeat, in DEs a double-hit was treated like a floor hit, nothing done). Lots of fun! VERY different game!
Some folks at a club in North Texas told me of a gag tournament they did. When you registered you picked a weapon. When you and an oppenant were called to strip your cards were looked at. If both wrote, say "foil" they did fence foil, but if one wrote "foil" and one wrote "epee" then they had to fence sabre! You get the idea.

I like the ideas. I can only imagine idea number 2 as an epee tournament though. Right of way exists in foil and sabre for a reason.

Let's plan for one of these after nationals! There seems to be a lag in tournaments just after nationals!

I know of several clubs that have mini-one light only tournaments for foil and saber. The thought is to develop defensive skills. Anyway this is just for fun!
