I wanted to bring up a point that I know has been brought multiple times before.
I went to the Cat Fight last weekend and had a great time. The only critique I had was that we had to wait for one fencer to complete other events before the tournament could proceed forward.
I understand some fencers enjoy fencing multiple events but when one person holds up a pool or a DE it really slows down the progress of the event.
I'd rather see fencers concentrate on one event a day and flow into the mix of the competition instead of swim against the tide and hold up progress.
If we held a competitior to one event a day then you could add repacharge to the tournament and have more fencing.
I can't imagine anyone being opposed to more fencing then waiting for someone else to make up bouts in a tournament.
Just a thought. Tim

Actually, don't some tournaments do this (like NACs)?

Exactly! Why divert from the NAC platform since the local and regional stuff is for practice towards a NAC anyway.
Even if you really don't care to attend a NAC I would think everyone would want to fence more than wait for individual XYZ to finish a bout somewhere else.
Several local events I've attended tend to be held up because one or two people are fencing in another event.
I would rather see repacharge in place (just like a NAC) so everyone gets more bang for their buck.
I think it would be REALLY COOL!!!!!

Repacharge? *Shudder* That has got to be the most hideous and ugly system possibly invented.
Side note, did you know that "repacharge" is French for "make the tournament last forever?" And if you think that the people we have running tournaments NOW move things slowly and screw things up, imagine what would happen with repacharge!
Instead of repacharge, do two rounds of pools. Takes half the time, and everyone gets in more bouts. Until and unless tournament managers start hiring professional BC people, repacharge is a bad idea.

Tim I agree with you both in the criticism of fencers fencing multiple events in the same day, and your support for repechage (also repĂȘchage) /rep/ noun (in rowing, sailing and other sports) a race or contest in which the people who lost in one stage of a competition can compete against each other to win a place in the next stage of the competition.Repechage comes from French, from repĂȘcher meaning 'fish out' or 'rescue' As a former competitor in rowing it was an important way get back in the game and overcome a previous defeat. It offers more opportunity to compete. Obviously, it takes time and can tax the system running the event. In Germany for some international tournaments they go through repechage from the table of 64. To handle 64 fencers this way, it takes 8 hours ... but you get to fence.

I'de like to see ALL local tournaments have a repecharge. Speaking for the number of fencers who seem to lose their second if not first DE, I enjoy the extra bout. It also seems that the first bout after your loss is with someone closer to your skill level, which for me makes for a better contest...why should I have to end every event I attend with a 15-3 loss to Robert Reed? As for the extra time, it can be found in the time it takes the on-deck pair to find their masks, put their gloves on, attach the body cord to the blade, ect. At one NAC, I was in a pool with a lady director who told us all in the begining of the pools EXACTLY how ready we were to be, and that she would be quite upset if we were not. We were done in no time. One other thing (a peeve) I have: when you see a beginer trying in vain to attach his reel cord to his body cord and his jacket, HELP THEM. Once they know it's OK to be helped, they'll understand that we're all patient, but the tounament must move on at a standard pace.

Strange...when I went to the Div 2, 3, Vet NAC in Denver, I fenced in 3 events and none of them had repacharge. Is this new or only for certian NACs?

Div I, Junior and Cadet I think. It should be noted that Jerry Benson reported refereeing for 56 hours over 4 days at the last NAC, with a substantial portion of that blamed on repecharge.
