The U.S. Olympic Committee’s final rankings for fencing is out and West University residents Nicolas and Sean Wilson top their divisions after just a third season of competition.
The twins rank first and second in U.S. Youth 12 and under men’s epee by a wide margin.
Ever since the twins began competing at a national level, they’ve edged out the competition. They also claimed the top two spots for Youth 10 and under men’s epee division in their first year of national competition (the 2009 to 2010 season).
Fencing is an Olympic sport and the Wilson twins can’t wait to watch fencing this August.
Nicolas and Sean will be following Texas Olympic fencers Courtney and Kelley Hurley.
“Kelley and Courtney practice at our club (Alliance Fencing Academy) here in Houston. They are amazing,” said Sean Wilson.
Added Nicolas Wilson, “Kelley and Courtney Hurley aren’t the only amazing fencers who practice at our club. Two of my favorites are Jack Hudson and Anna VanBrummen.”
VanBrummen finished the season ranked second in U.S. Junior (19-and-under) women’s epee. Hudson finished the season ranked fourth in US Junior (19-and-under) men’s epee.
“I just hope I can keep improving so I can compete as well as these great fencers,” said Nicolas Wilson.
The Wilson twins have won 67 national fencing medals over the last three seasons.
“It’s a long road, and the end of a matter is better than its beginning,” said Sean.
One thing is clear, if beginnings can be used to predict future Olympians, these native Houston twins are off to a good start.
