Words are inadequate to express my appreciation for all those who gave so much of their time and talents to make the Houston NAC the great success that is was. Thanks to the volunteers including Nicole and John Trojanowski, Steve Moss, Mario Rodriguez, Dimitry Ivanov, Kathy Bone, Andrew Nat and all the Woodlands folks. The NAC received rave reviews from fencers, coaches and visitors from all over the nation. Rebbecca ElSaleh sang and played the harp for the national anthem. If you missed her harp playing, you missed something special. I have never seen an entire event come to a complete stop, intently listening to a true artist perform. As I looked around the room, I was not surprised see many others (just like me) with tears in our eyes. It was fabulous. Thank you Rebbecca! Special thanks to the young man who drove the parent around the med center early Sunday morning to find a place to buy crutches. Special Thanks to those who sered as runners. Well done good and faithful people! Finally we all need to send a thank you email to Cathy Dean of the Harris County/Houston Sports Authority for all her hard work and success at securing the event for Houston. Because of her work and yours, Houston has a chance at future national fencing events.

No need to thank me, I got a crash course in wheelchair fencing, something I never knew much about. Gary and the fencers were great to work with. It was fun...tiring, but fun...
That and when I was free I got to see, visit and cheer on half the people I know from fencing.

Not having to contend with airports and hotels was a BIG plus for me... too bad my fencing sucked.

Marty,
I wandered around the venue on Saturday afternoon. What really pleased me, though, was how spacious it was.
(Go back 10-15 years and we were practically fencing on top our fencing bags at some NACs).
I also noticed a spacious (and unused) room adjacent to the area used for the venue. GRB could easily accommodate the summer nationals... hint!hint!

I think the convension center could have accomodated about 4 Summer Nationals, given the % that was used...

Marty, A most heartfelt thanks to YOU for all you've done to make this NAC a success. You are too modest and kind to thank everyone else, but we all know the frustrations and roadblocks you had to go through for the past several months to make this NAC a success. And congratulations also to Joe for his great fencing on Monday. He makes us all proud for making the GC Division and the SW Section known nationally and internationally in saber!

You are all too kind. I can't say a lot but know that there are already bids in for additional USFA events at the GRB! I would encourage you all to email Cathy Dean at the Harris County Houston Sports Authority and the USFA (Mike Massik and Christine Simmons) and encourage them to bring more events to Houston. They listen and your comments are counted. A Jr. World Cup is a real possibility at this time (Louisville had one for years). The USFA approves that through the FIE. The venue and all the volunteer help was a big positive for Houston. Remember the NCAA Championships will be here in a month!!!!

My daughter and I would like to volunteer for the NCAA championships. Unfortunately, we were out of town for the NAC (darn). Please e-mail me at staciared2@yahoo.com to let us know how we can help.

Special THANK YOU to Marty and the volunteers that made the NAC so successful. Without the commitment of the fencing community, opportunities like this to grow your sport through exposure is lost. Our city and your clubs will benefit from your dedication.
The "Night of Champions" raised over $100,000 and was attended by 750 people. The money goes to the USOC to be used for program development in the Houston community. Thank you to those of you that "invested" in future programming.
The NCAA's are coming back to Houston on March 16-20. Marty will be contact with the entire fencing community, look forward to working with many of you again!

Actually, Cathy, thank you. This just would not have happened without you and your organization.
Marty did a great thing for us and I was encouraged at the folks I saw volunteering their time, but you guys really came through for fencing in Houston.
