It sure would be nice if it could become an A level tournament.

On a local level (i.e. the Gulf Coast Division) one problem is that many of our better fencers, be they foilists (like Colin Sutter) or sabreurs (like Joe Wysocki) is that they mostly fence NAC and World Cups, etc, and don't visit the local events as often, anymore.
These kids, they grow up so fast and leave the nest...

El-Saleh is good, but sometimes looses focus and can be his own worst enemey. Morales, OTOH, can be a pretty cool customer. If he can rattle Michael, he has a good chance.

The epeeists seem to stick around, though...

I think it's a safe guess to say Michael's the heavy favorite in this race?

My someone else vote went to my drinking buddy, Vitaly "the Ukrainian Nightmare" Boksiner. I guarantee his arm strength will be good from lots of 12 oz curls.

Yeah! Vitaly all they way. We usually work out once a week together, the 12 ounce curls that is. Gotta say he is in pretty good shape from what I see there....

I'd kinda like another A to show up just so that if Chris or Vitaly or whoever of the Bs has a hot day they can earn their A.
On the other hand, it's also a points event, so making it harder to earn those 1000 points doesn't do those guys too much good.

David Ramirez beat Michael El-Saleh 15-14 in overtime for the gold. Great bout.
The back card was given to Sam Tadlock following his loss to Michael in their bout in the 4.
Ben Nichols was the other 3rd place finisher.

You know, the real drawback to refereeing is there's so much good fencing you don't get to see, like any of that.
