As of this writing, FRED lists 7 As as pre-registered.

Normally I'd go with Robert Reed, but he got his A07 a few weeks ago and then fenced his heart out (I hear) just this last weekend in Houston. Trapani has had time to rest from JOs.
I'm going with Daniel. If he can keep from beating himself up when his opponent gets some points on him and stays focused, he has the talent to take this one.

I'm going with Skopik. He's got a lot of different ploys. He knows how most of his competition fences. He is a local (home court advantage, not hours on the road to get here).
If he doesn't over push himself too soon and paces himself, he will be tough to get by.

Sure, Augie is dang good, not to mention a great coach, but Robert wins EVERY tournament I enter, so I voted for him. On a pitiful side note, I've never won ANY event I entered...

True, captain jon, but fox makes a convincing arguement for Daniel.
Daniel will be a bit fresher, hopefully more relaxed going in. I also agree that, like many young fencers, he can be his own hardest opponent on strip. If he stays focused on one touch at a time, though, I think he might just take this one.

Thanks for the votes. I tore my Meniscus or some scar tissue loose last March/April at the Divisionals in the saber finals, and I have just recently started to get completely healthy. That means I am now up to slow in the speed meter. I have about 20 pounds to shed, but I now can walk up or down the stairs without falling down. I still don't feel completely comfortable with my attacks, but that is life.
I did not see any votes for Pedersen. As his coach, you should look back at the past season where this young man has gone from a D at this time last year to a solid A and rising. He is beginning to give many people trouble, and now his next hurdle is fencing people that do not understand fencing as well as he does. He will get the idea that it is not how long a person has been fencing but how much they understand and apply that is important. He was 1st Call to Arms, 2nd Waco, 3rd in San Marcos earlier this season, 1st in Junior JO Qualifiers beating Krudy 15 - 7 in the semis, and has several other impressive tournaments. I would say he was ready to break out but already has.
The other person to watch is Dwayne Blakeley. He was an A when I was just beginning, a lefty, and does not rely on speed either. When he earned his B last year he beat 3 As in succession, including Bibb and Shawn Wright.
Should be fun. I told Carpenter at JOs we would miss him.

Well, it looks like fox and Aldo N had this one pegged. It was Trapani over Reed in the Gold Medal bout.

Quiet.. I must concentrate, the crystal ball knows all... I see dark knight riding to a distant land to the north... I see great battles and narrow escapes, blades clash, I hear shrieks of dispair and shouts of triumph... I see... no... sorry... the images fade...

Hey, let me tell you what, yea, the Oz is a bit of a drive, but, like the Rose (another good drive) its a VERY well run tournament. First class venue, exceptional referee cadre, and an LOC who pays attention to all the little details that make a tournament worth traveling to attend. And it also attracts some fencers that are a bit different than the usual group - Colorado, Kansas, Amarillo. WORTH the time.
