..... if you were accidentally thinking I was an "A" instead of a "B". And if you did mistakenly think I was an "A" that you might change your mind. [/IMG]
WHAT??? You're a "B?" That's wonderful!!!! (Silly girl.... I don't pay ANY attention to ratings - never have. I pay attention to FENCERS - and not all "RATED" people are really FENCERS! Besides, Rhonda needs a "good night out!" Thank you for passing along the scholarship info - we try to get the word out at SWIFA....

Oh, man, do I understand the traveling conflicts. I am going flat broke trying to buy plane tickets out to the NACs this year. Of course I'm a college student trying to scrape by with a part time job... My goal is to get hired on with a regional airline when I graduate, so I can fly places for free (I picked the right profession, huh?). I just need more flight time first... And the NACs are the main focus of my training. I fence for many reasons, but I do have my goals, and right now, being a national competitor is one of them. So... I use the SSCCs as practice, and that's why I'm always so willing to drive around to them. However, I am a SUCKER for a mixed event. I love fencing dudes. It's so much fun. So my whole program revolves around fencing women for national practice, and then having fun fencing the guys at mixed events. Because let's face it; men's and women's sabre is so much different. Fencing the girls has proven good practice for me, I guess. That's why I do it. Plus, I love supporting the SSCCs. I wasn't around when they did mixed events, but I can see why they needed to standardize the events for the points system they keep. And I understand that they segregated the events in order to mimic the way we do things nationally and internationally. Am I right on this? I don't know, I just heard it somewhere... Speaking of SSCCs, Evelyn, I loved fencing at the Rose last weekend! The A rated sabre guys were really worth watching. I wish more people had the funding to fly people out to tournaments like that. It really worked, and Marcel turned out to be a great sabre referee, too. And there is no way I can make the Crescent City Open. It's too far away from OKC (an 11 hour drive), and I already spent all my money to go to the Rosemont NAC to support my teammate. I can't fence since it's Div II/III, but he came to support me in Atlanta, so I kinda owe him. Oh, well, maybe next year we can plan for New Orleans.

Yea, the Rose was great, like it always is. First class event in all aspects. Shoot, we were one "C" rated fencer away from a B tournament... next year, hopefully. Heck, if we put together the right people, maybe at the Oz. On the subject of "fun" and "training" events, my girls are focused on the SSCC's as their main aspect. That is the points list they're currently chasing (it gives them a good metric to judge their progress by and a good goal to shoot for). So, for them, those are the "serious" events. For them, the mixed events that they take part in are usually for training purposes - warmups for a part of the season, or something like that. We go to those with a specific intent to work on some aspect of the game. Their "fun" events are the 3-4 non-SSCC women's events in the fall and spring that they hit - some local, and some of the DivII national level (we'll be in Rosemont on Sunday, when are ya'll there exactly Cathy?). We try to hit the one's that are going to have decent refereeing, at least. Driving to a "fun" event with bad refereeing is about as fun as a tonsillectomy. CCO would be on our list, but it too is a long way for us, especially the weekend after Rosemont and two weeks before the Oz. Maybe next season, if the schedules work out right. Hey, Cathy, here's a question for you, as someone who competes at a fairly high level. What do you see as the main differences between the men's game and the women's game? What kinds of things transition over well, and what doesn't? I know what I have my girls work on, but I'd be curious where your emphasis is? And on the subject of guest fencers... well, an event to put on your schedules now . One is SabreCave - we're aiming for September 27 and 28. Yes, its going to happen, unless something else comes up (like an SSCC event claiming the weekend). You girls tell me who you want me to bring in, get them to come, and I will . I'm also going to do my best to get some team events in there too. The goal isn't to make money, but I can't afford to lose money either! You help me find me the people necessary for an A rated WS event and I will have it!

Thank you both for the compliments, I will pass them onto the tournament committee and I am sure they will appreciate it. We are looking at possible solutions and changes that might further enhance attendance and the quality of the tournament. I can't give any spoilers but we are always open to new ideas and suggestions. I will be at the Oz. I was planning on going to the CCO but it falls on top of my little sister's wedding...
