Any chance the ARMA folks will be doing anything in public (demonstrations, etc) locally, where some of us shy types can take a gander at them and strike up a conversation?

Savien,
Sorry for the delay in my response, but I have been out of commission with the flu. I spoke with John and ARMA has no demonstrations planned in the near future.
If you are in the Houston area, why not just stop by as a guest and watch/participate in one of our Wednesday night classes? We don't bite; we hack, slash, cleave, stab, pummel, grapple, and gouge; but we don't bite.
I would suggest that you come to the class 30-45 mins before it starts. While everyone is warming up would be an ideal time to ask questions and strike up conversations with us.
Drop John Clements a line at armadirector@aol.com to let us know when to expect you.
Hope to see you soon!

I've noticed some recent activity on the theatrical fencing area of this forum. Didn't I see on ARMA's site that they conduct some sort of stage fencing certification?

I though John was based on the southwest side, closer to Sugar Land and Missouri CIty?

I can't believe they ran the photo on their web site. Is this supposed to help recruit members?
I know it gets hot down here, but I've never even been a fan of allowing folks to do "club bouting" with dry (rubber tipped) foils while wearing shorts.
This... fencing with sharp swords... no protective gear beyond T-shirts and shorts? I tell, Darwin is at work here.
