I guess the existence of this site, www.armatruth.com/, means there is some dissention among the historical fencing set. Not that there usually is not SOME dissent there...

Yeah. I took a look yesterday. I did not mean to sound so...cruel...in my last post. I also found those historical fencing BBSes mentioned on the division page and searched for ARMA and HACA. I had no idea there would be that much controversey.

Controversey, in and of itself, is not always bad. I know there have been issues between the director and scholars from other historical fencing groups, but I always think what is sad is the negative effect it has on the student, the fencer.

Yeah.. I've met some cool arma members in the past.
Of course, they've all since been kicked out of arma or left on their own. What's left behind is a strange cult like group. They know that the rest of the WMA world wants nothing to do with them, but they warp that into proving that they must be the only ones on the right path.

Yes, the ARMATruth site has been down for quite awhile. It was set up by some disaffected ex-members.
ARMA (formerly HACA) is the historical fencing group run by John Clements.
Both John Clements and the anti-ARMA groups inspire intense emotions on both sides. Rumor (and it is no more than that) has it that Mr. Clements is rather litiguous. If so, that may account for the site disappearing. If not, it may have dropped away due to rancor from the ARMA crowd.
I will not voice an opinion on this one.
As to the controversies around ARMA and Mr. Clements, there are endless threads on Sword Forum International and Net Sword. Suffice it to say that, within the historical fencing milieu, the arguements and rancor for and against Mr. Clements and ARMA make the Geva/Hamza/Lepie/Skopik animosities look like a disagreement over where to place a salad fork.

I just finished finally reading the whole site. I know it was started by guys that obviously aren't John Clements fans, but even if only half the J C Injury Report is true the guy is a menace. He must have one heck of a waiver he gets students and members to sign.
