For those looking for an alternative to either ARMA or SCA style fencing, I am reminded that there is a coterie of students of William Wilson's Tattershall Schoold of Defence operating in Houston.
The main contact is Rice fencer Dakao Do. He advised:
"However, there are reliably two or three of us Tattershall students attending the Tuesday night SCA fighter practices...
I, for one, always try to do a bit of footwork, some badework with others who are ready (and willing) for it. And we free fence a fair bit. We don't deal with the wrestling and grappling, disarms, etc. b/c it's the SCA's rules, but there's plenty to keep a beginner busy for months.
Exit Cullen, turn left. Entrance 13 is on the left at the 4th (might be 3rd) traffic light (street sign says Entrance 11)
Tuesdays at 7 p.m. (there's usually a half-dozen folks there by 7:30)
...look for David Biggs, Kevin, or Dakao."

Any word if the Tattershall group still has an active Houston branch?

Alive and well, if somewhat busy with work and etc. 3 or 4 of us continue to fence at SCA practices. I've been sitting it out due to out-of-town-itis or unrelated injuries. Our actual Tattershall practice on Thursdays in NW Houston is private, but inquiries are always welcome. These days, look for Adam, Mark, and me.
