Thanks, John. For those interested, I can provide a brief overview of activities for the latter two groups in Houston. Both groups are currently only holding regular, weekly private practices by arrangement with members, due to a lack of reasonably large, reasonably affordable, indoor venues located centrally. We are open to suggestions, if anyone would like our assistance in defraying their current overhead expenses. Protective gear is required, but any fencer would already meet most of our basic requirements. Schola St. George: SSG has a well-developed, standardized curriculum on the fighting system taught by Fiore dei Liberi. In Houston, we are focusing primarily on use of the longsword, covering both giocco largo and giocco stretto plays (plays at distance with the blade and grappling plays). Tattershall: We currently are on approximately 6-week rotations, with each session focusing on a different master or school of fencing. Recent masters covered include: Capo Ferro (rapier), dall'Agocchie (sidesword / cut-and-thrust), I.33 (arming sword and buckler), and Fabris (the greatest grand-daddy of all rapier masters). (As an aside, anyone unfamiliar with Salvator Fabris would do well to become acquainted with his work. His treatise on fencing is one of the most extensive works extant on swordplay in the Renaissance. His writing is organized and clear, resembling a well-written modern college textbook. Many principles of good fencing were first clearly laid out in this book, to be plagiarized and otherwise transmitted down through the centuries. More info at Other topics covered on occasion include: quarterstaff, pole-axe, dagger, wrestling.
