Hey, Guys. I started a thread in the Fencing Net site on the Fete de Luna. It would be nice if people post on that thread something memorable related to that tournament. You can pick anything from the 1st through the 9th Fete de Luna. I know that there are plenty of photos. This effort might be useful to stir interest into this lovely tournament! Perhaps, we might be able to drag some people out of state. Here is the link ... www.fencing.net/forums/thread37008.html Jose E. Cavazos

Good thought, Jose.
Meanwhile here are some other details.
The Grand Prize: From among the fencers who fence all three weapons, the one who fared best overall. As is traditional, the prize is a handcrafted fencing weapon. This year it is a sabre. The blade and pommel will be standard issue. The guard will be pierced sterling silver over copper. The grip is staghorn.
1st, 2nd, & both third place fencers in each weapon (men's & women's) get a commemorative bottle of wine. (Rioja).
The male fencers for overall 1st place in foil, epee and sabre will also receive a sterling silver wine-stopper bearing the same logo as my first post in this thread (ship under sail, moon and rocket). The female fencers for overall first place in foil, epee and sabre will receive a silver pendant bearing the same image.
Age-group (40-49; 50-59; etc) will have the usual medals. (Sorry, we had to stop somewhere).

John and Nicole,
Perhaps you can post there photos of hand-crafted prizes from prior years!

Okay. I don't have all of them on hand, but here goes. This is the 2004 prize, the one closest to this year's. It had a guard of pierced sterling silver and a staghorn grip... This year's model will have a different piercing pattern and copper behind the silver, with a bit of turquoise mounted on it.

What if I have an ID that says I'm old enough? Then we call the police and report you.

What if I have an ID that says I'm old enough? I thought your last ID got you into the Y14 Women's Foil event somewhere....you'll have to get another one.

It's okay. I put the gender and age locks in place in Fred with Jett in mind. I also have Matt watching.

I still say if you call it a veteran's tournament, that I get to fence.

I still say if you call it a veteran's tournament, that I get to fence. Dan Sorry, lower case "v", not upper case! (at least in my mind the "v" should be upper case for those who have served!) You'll get there eventually, don't hurry it.

You'll get there eventually, don't hurry it. Yeah, those next 3-4 years are really gonna fly, trust me. On a separate aspect of this tournament, we are planning a more informal gathering at Zio's on Bay Area Blvd after the tournament. It will not be a pre-pay in advance type banquet. You can order what you want and nothing more. The upside of this location for those coming from out of town (or even the far side of the Houston area) is that it is only two blocks from I-45. It is also next door to, and across the street from, some hotels for those sleeping over for a Sunday morning departure... when our freeways can actually offer rapid access!

That saber is nice... I'm willing to referee, or help run the tournament

I'll pass that on to Nicole. She is the main organizer on this tournament and she was just starting working on getting referees and staff this last weekend.

Dan does have a point. He is a veteran, as I too am, just different wars. (I rather enjoyed the 18th Century.)

Come on, Augie! We need another "A" in Epee (plus a few more bodies).
Let's say the if Augie registers, he has 5 other competitors for the 3-weapon prize: Ray, Don, Curtis, Andrew and Me.
I will add polls to this tournament!!!

Nicole and I visited with the folks at D'Vine Wines on The Strand in Galveston this weekend. The logo that appeared in the first post on this thread will constitute the label on the bottles of Rioja.
Paul Levy has added the Fete de Lune to the "local competitions" part of the USFA Veteran Fencing site.
Also, FWIW, our referee cadre will include
Mike Ross Foil - 4; Epee - 3; Sabre - 8
and
Justin Meehan
Foil - 3; Epee - 2; Sabre - 4
Good enough for a start?
