Come on, Augie! We need another "A" in Epee (plus a few more bodies). Let's say the if Augie registers, he has 5 other competitors for the 3-weapon prize: Ray, Don, Curtis, Andrew and Me. I will add polls to this tournament!!! Wait just a minute, Jose! Just 5? I've beat all of you guys in one (or two) weapons or the other at one time or another!

Have you registered?
It is difficult to make up points if you don't compete in a weapon.

Not too shabby. The epee event finally reached the magic "15" and jumped to a B1 event. See you guys there... in about 16 years! ;D

We can probably borrow Damian's... He's too young to fence in it and, besides, he will be too busy refereeing. ;D

I've always been bigger than the average college kid... even when I was in college. If I have to pick a jury that Monday, I won't be there (physically), but I will still be there in spirit! Just planning ahead.

I just follow epee so I can't comment on the women's foil or sabre, but I am seeing A LOT of vet women's epee regulars missing.
(Although having Diane Kallus raises your profile considerably).
I am wondering about Suzanne Simpson, Suzette Wheeler, Karen Johnson, Rachel El-Saleh, Terry Harkey, Catherine Vanderloos... you get the idea.
For that matter, Clear Lake has a real babe among their vet fencers! She was at the qualifiers this year as some kind of nurse and I tried so hard to twist my ankle without missing the touch! Dunno her name but none of the women on the FRED site claim CLFC. Where is she. Schlager7, get her to sign up. It may only help you women's numbers by one, but it should boost male turnout!
When I look back on vet events (epee, anyway) I see lots of women participating, but they don't seem to travel around in the numbers the men do.

She was at the qualifiers this year as some kind of nurse Camille. Not a nurse. To be specific, she's an MD and her specialty is sports medicine. My understanding from her is she plans to fence. monitorlizerd, who will be doing armory chores, is a nurse. An MD and a nurse. You guys couldn't fence in a safer environment!

She actually was a medical student at the same time that I was at Baylor College of Medicine doing my fourth year rotations.
Ben Taub and Jefferson Davis Hospitals had UT-Houston and BCM students at the time back in the mid 80's.

Awww shucks...Here was, thinking that someone was calling me a "babe". And I have been fencing epee lately. I haven't signed up because my elbows still can't take the pounding and torqueing of saber The spousal unit just had some relatively minor knee surgury done, and will be helping me in the armory. No way will he be able to fence this soon. He wont make Call to Arms, either. Believe me, I wish I could fence.

The Fete de Luna is a Veteran's Combined event and currently is looking a very good and nice tournament:
Women's Foil: E1 - 6 fencers (1C, 1D, 4U's) Men's Foil: likely C1 - currently 14 fencers (1B, 5C's, 1D, 7U's)
Mixed Epee: A1 - 24 fencers (19 male: 2A's, 5B's, 3C's, 1D, 2E's, 6U's; 5 female: 1C, 4U's) - possibly gender separate events (requires 6 women in the event; o/w becomes a mixed event).
Mixed Saber: E1 - 11 fencers (9 male: 2B's, 1C, 1D, 1E, 4U's; 2 female: 2U's)
Notable registered fencers (B07 or better) include: Ray Sexton, Emilio Ybarra, Don Cravey, Augie Skopik, Dwain Blakley, and Alexander Popovici.

In addition to the commemorative wine, the 1st, 2nd & 3rd places for men's events will get a wine stopper with the tournament logo (for the fencer who doesn't finish their bottle in one sitting ). Here is a sample shot. It is actually the "silver" medal, but I took the photo with it atop a manila envelope, giving is a gold cast. (The women's 1st-3rd places get the same disc as the wine stopped, but set as a pendant.)

For the benefit of those old enough for the tournament, just to check in that:
the age group medals have been picked up; the commemorative wine has been picked up; maupin has finished the winestoppers and pendants; the guard has been polished on the men's 3-weapon trophy; the pearls have been strung on the women's 3-weapon trophy; rooms reserved for such of our referees as will need them; showers brought back into service at the facility(for those who want to clean up before eating);
See you there.

I think Nicole should advertise...she could do a nice business in custom fencing trophies! That is just beautiful. Good point, kb. I wonder what one of those babies would cost?

I think Nicole should advertise...she could do a nice business in custom fencing trophies! That is just beautiful. Good point, kb. I wonder what one of those babies would cost? If you are referring to the 3-weapon prize, it would cost plenty. Here is a sneak peak at this year's before polishing and tidying up. What you are seeing is 22 guage sterling silver over 18 guage copper with a turquoise mounted below the blade. The photo does contain one illusion. To my eye it looks like the turquoise is mounted from the outside (camera side), when, in fact, I know it is mounted from the inside of the guard. Then, too, our hallway is not the best place for photography. Nicole works in the custom jewelry/silversmithing/goldsmithing business. Retail for a custom piece like this (raw materials, labor, design work on a custom, unique project)... comfortably over two thousand... It also goes up based on the difficulty in taking a client's personal vision and actually making it work in the real world. Where she works, some folks come to her with ideas that just are not physically possible. A lot of people do not seem to appreciate that the more pure metals like gold and silver are, the SOFTER they are, and thus cannot support some structures. She IS open to creating such pieces but most fencers and clubs would find the cost prohibitive.

Winners for Men's events:
Men's Epee (17 fencers): Augie Skopik Men's Foil (10 fencers): Curtis Hardy Men's Saber (11 fencers): Curtis Hardy
Hardy picks up the Saber trophy as he placed 3rd place in Men's Epee.
I fenced reasonably well, placing 6th in all 3 events. My Epee bout with Skopik went to priority after 8-8 and time in regulation. He obviously beat me as he captured the gold.
As usual, great tournament, great environment, nicely done!

Took so long? After the Friday night meeting, then a late-into-the-early-AM setting up of materials, the Saturday tournament and our group dinner at Enzo's... I only woke up ninety minutes ago! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ Thanks for your work kb! Thanks also to all the fencers who came out and the referees and helpers who worked through the day. Special thanks to JEC on a fine start, rounding off our first year of our Southwest Veterans' Circuit!!!
