Damaris: According to what you told me, TSU and UT already sent in their $350 checks. That's 2.
UNT and UTSA have both called me for SWIFA's EIN to be able to cut checks through their accounting departments. That's 4 so far.
Gary Job Corps and I have been working out the kinks and should be done. That's 5.
Texas Tech says they are in according to Jay (but may have to hand-deliver it). That's 6 so far! It Lives... it Lives! The monster lives!!! ;D

Stop calling us TSU that is a school in houston (Texas Southern University).
The School actualy signed somthing saying that it could never refer to itself as (TSU) when it changed its name to Texas State. We could call our selfs (TS) KU or OU or somthing. I guess all the two letter ones have a "U" at the end though so mabye TS would sound stupid.
I do beleve that alot of peole at the school are using (TxSt). (TS) just looks better to me though.

I turned in the request for the $350 and I will send it (or someone from the rec will; I gave them that e-mail with the address and everything on it.)
I do hope our aggie friends will be joing us. It's be a pity to travel 7 hours or so to fence an incomplete SWIFA.

Force of habit. When I went there it was a 3 letter name... just different letters; SWT!

Hey people our askfred account has locked or somthing. So we cant get in to approve anybody on the askfred SWIFA thing. We are just waiting for the contact at askfred to help us out and then we will either approved everybody, or, I dont know how its gonna work out, mabye we'll just scrap the whole thing.

I'd say just let people pre-reg. Nothing says that if they pre-registered we have to let them fence.

yea, I'd say just let each club decide how the want to put up their tournement on askfred. SWIFA's not gonna do it for them. it just that "Our" account, the texas state university account is having problems with askfred.net.

Hey Damaris... You asked me to referee next weekend at SWIFA #1. What time do you want me there? ?

Your just in time, we just worked that out yesterday. Close or registration is 9:30am yet we worked out that you (directors) dont need to be there until 10:30am.

Damaris,
I got the Yahoo Group e-mail about the tournament and realized I wasn't on the listing of directors. Do you still need me to work?

Did someone other than me say that we were gonna use you? because ive had the same amount of director since before the first time you asked me that. I remember I said that we dont need directors but if you wanted to to the computing, that would be ok. And i forward a copy of it to the president of the club here (Amy). If she told you, yea we need you, then I guess we will use you but other than that we dont. Epee directors are the easiest to come by in theses parts.

Tell you what, I'll bring my suit in case y'all need me. Otherwise, I'll help out however you need me. If you're all set, I can just coach my fencers.

We were planing on having one of the epee strips self direct simply because we have grounded strips. (and to save money) So if at the last minute Amy changes that you'll be the first to know.

So, umm, Damaris. I'm just trying to plan my weekend here, and a couple of details would be nice. How many teams are expected? What format is being used? And what time is the projected finish on Saturday?

|
|
Post by Parry Nine on Sept 20, 2006 8:52:27 GMT -6
David, check out the Ops Manual thread to see the format.
I'd say finish time would be 6-7 (liberally) depending on the number of schools and the number of teams each school brings.

About 8 to 9 teams. If you dont know the SWIFA format round about its gonna be hard to do over this. basicly its 3 people and.......
a vs b b vs c c vs a a vs c b vs a c vs b a vs a b vs b c vs c
to 5 touches each bout.
all nine bouts will be fenced even if someone already wins the encounter because the bouts that are won will be the touches scored.
It was decided yesterday that top 8 teams advance to DE's
I would say 5:00 would be the end but i might be being optimistic.

David,
We're using the old style team format. During the pools, all nine will be fenced to get an indicator (as Damaris said.) During the DE, it's a race to 5 bouts. No sense in fencing more bouts if the encounter has already been lost. No repechage. Third will be fenced off.
