Robert was on a roll at the Pouj, we'll see if he can keep it up with the GB boys in town.

Man, it's just such a tough field and so hard to call. One fencer having a headache could change everything.

I'll take Trapani. He's on a climb. He stumbled pretty good at the NAC, but overall he's becoming a more polished fencer each time I see him.

Even with Robert's fancy ancient relic epee.... I'm still voting for me.

Will change my motto of the season "dont lose to anyone outside your club" to simple "dont lose". My vote goes to me this time (not that it went anywhere else before...)

I am hoping everyone write's me off just like they did the Fete De' Lune three weapon. I used that as motivation in those 30+ bouts that day.
Seriously, it looks like a great tournament. See everyone soon.

Jens - "Don't lose to anybody outside my club" could very well mean top 32 at best for you, given how many of y'all there are.

But on a serious note: I dont think that we will have the big numbers in Houston that we had at the Longhorn. But at the Gold Blade should field quite a few.

9/9 of the top SSCC points holders are attending...
Speaking of such, where is Mr. Shackleford? I haven't seen him in a while.

"Jared, are you fencing at the Houston SSCC this weekend?".... "I don't think so coach..." "Why not?" "Uh, I don't know...." *grumble*

OK, guys!!!
The issue is now whether people show up.
We got enough A's, B's, C's, and pre-registrants (paid + unpaid) to get an A4 tournament.
Two more C's and one E fencer pre-registered after the noon tally. My son is incorrectly listed as a U instead of a D05. We have 66 pre-registrants as of now. (Cross reference the askFred list with Terry Harkey's list)

Be sure to email Terry tonight then, so she's got the info.

reposted from f.net by me: Haha! Jens though he was being clever by claiming his National Points after all, propelling him to the #1 seed in the event. However, he made one Fatal Mistake.
The SSCC Seeding rule 1 requires that Fencers in the top 32 of the Senior Nationals Points list get a seed ahead of all others. Unfortunately, Jens is #38. The Rule 2 of the Seeding rules applies, which is that the top 8 in the SSCC standing get a seeded draw ahead of all other fencers not in rule 1. The top 8 is Jim Carpenter (#1) Jens Stephan (#2) Robert Reed (#3) Brent Kelly (#4) Jacob Osbourne (#5) Michael LoParco (#6) Terry Hicks (#7) Jonathon Bibb (#8)
Then comes anyone else with National Points (sorry, that's Jens, Jim and Brent, already accounted for)
Then comes the remainder, sorted by Letter, then places 9-32 of the SSCC Points, then by year below that.
All of the weapons have this issue.

No, that was last year. We don't protect the top 8 in SSCC seedings anymore.
Now, its 1) Top 32 National places protected 2) National places above 32 to resolve ties within a letter ranking (before year) 3) SSCC places 1-32 to resolve ties within a letter ranking (before year) 4) As normal.

Well, the EC passed a couple of resolutions at the beginning of the year. I'd assumed the new SSCC commissioner had updated the Operations Manual and had it posted to the website.

I guess we'll have to do this FIE style and read everything that ever gets published and some things that aren't in order to know what the rules are.

AskFred is listing: 62 Fencers: 19A's, 8B's, 8C's, 's, 6E's, 13U's, Including late entries (AskFred) and assuming that at least two of Houstonians from the preliminary seeding show (B:Micek; C: O'Neill, Popovici, Robinson, Bartholomew) We have enough for A4. Better show up, Capt. Jon! We have 70 fencers between the two lists: 19 A's, 9 B's, 12 C's, 10 D's, 7 E's, 13 U's

The event felt like an A4 tournament but we missed the 36th fencer being a C or better. It is too bad that some fencers did not show up. We had the number of fencers, more than enough A's and B's, adequate finish of highly rated fencers. I fenced very poorly, but my son did well including beating Sorensen and Stephan in pools losing eventually to Augie.

Iterestingly it should be noted - approximately 98% of the prepaid pre-registrants showed up across the events. Definitely validates this model of tournament management!
